Sunnah 22: Death ends all good deeds except..

The Prophet, peace be upon him, said,

‘When a person dies all his good deeds cease except for three:
1) A continuous act of charity
2) Beneficial knowledge
3) A righteous child who prays for him.” (Muslim)

Challenge:

1) Give in charity to a well building project or other forms of continuous charity (email us for more ideas!)

2) Teach someone a hadeeth or a verse of Quran you know

3) If you have children: Try your best to raise them as righteous individuals, teach them Quran, the ways of the Sunnah and more inshaAllah…

Sunnah 23: Ramadaan, Here we come!!!

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“Whoever fasts Ramadaan out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.” (Bukhari)

“Whoever spends the nights of Ramadaan in prayer out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.” (Bukhari)

“Whoever prays qiyaam with the imam until he finishes, it will be recorded for him that he spent the whole night in prayer.” (Abu Dawud-Sahih)

“Whoever gives iftaar to one who is fasting will have a reward like his, without that detracting from the fasting person’s reward in the slightest.” (al-Tirmidhi-Sahih)

Abu Hurayrah said: Jibreel used to review the Qur’aan with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) once every year, and he reviewed it with him twice in the year in which he passed away. (Bukhari)

Challenges for this Ramadaan:

1) Fast Ramadaan with the intention of earning Allaah’s Reward inshaa’ Allaah.

2) Try your best to Pray Qiyaam al-layl (also known as Taraweeh) hoping for Allaah’s Reward.

3) Try your best to pray Qiyaam al-layl (also known as Taraweeh) until the Imaam finishes.

4) Race your family/friends in serving iftaar or dates or even water to those who are fasting.

5) Try and set a fixed time everyday to try your best to complete recitation of the Qu’ran before the end of this month and read also reflect on it’s meanings by reading it in a language you understand.

A Special Du’a

Aishah, radhiya Allahu anha, said: “O Messenger of Allah, if I know which night is the Night of Qadr (Laylatul-Qadr) what should I say?”

He, sallalahu alayhe wasalam, said ‘Say:

اَللَّهُمَّ اِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ ، تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي

Allahumma innaka ‘affuwwun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa’fu ‘anni’ “

O Allah You are The One Who pardons greatly, and You love to pardon, so pardon me.
[at Tirmidhi]

Challenge: Learn this simple du’a, and teach it to at least one member of your family, or friend.

Challenge this week:

Learn a 3 verses of Qu’ran and teach it to a friend, sister, brother or relative!

The Sunnah of Eid!

Sunnah 27: The Sunnah of Eid!

1) Anas ibn Malik said, ”The Messenger of Allaah Peace be upon him,would not go out on the the morning of Eid ul Fitr until he had eaten some dates… and he would eat an odd number.”(Bukhari 953)

2) Jubayr ibn Nufayr said, ” At the time of the Prophet Peace be upon him, when people met one another o the Day of Eid, they would say, ” Taqabbal Allaahu minna wa minka.(May Allaah Accept from us and from you).” (Ibn Hajar. Hasan)

Challenges:

1) Follow the Prophet Peace be upon him and have an odd number of dates, before leaving in the morning for Eid Salah tomorrow inshaa’ Allaah!

2) Greet one another with the way of the companions by saying, ”taqabbal Alaahu minna wa minka.(May Allaah Accept from us our worship and from you).”

Fasting in Shawaal

The Prophet Peace be upon him said,
“Whoever fasts Ramadaan then follows it with six days of Shawwaal, it will be like fasting for a lifetime.” (Sahih Muslim)

Challenge:

First, make up any fasts you missed this Ramadhan, and follow them up with 6 extra fasts before Shawwaal slips away, only 25 more days left till Shawwaal leaves us!!

Increase your Sustenance & Life span by

Anas b. Malik reported: I heard Allaah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying:

He who is desirous that his means of sustenance should be expanded for him or his age may be lengthened,
should join the tie of relationship.
(Sahih Muslim 32/6202)

Challenge this Week:

Pay a visit, send an email, send a text or even a simple phone call to a relative you haven’t seen or spoken to for a while and try your best to keep in contact after that… and reap the rewards inshaa’ Allaah!

True belief

“None of you truly believes (in Allah and in His religion) until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself”

Challenge: Treat every Muslim you meet with the same respect and kindness you would like to be given.

No place for shaytaan to eat or sleep.

Sunnah 31: No place for shaytaan to eat or sleep.

“When a man enters his home and he remembers the Name of Allah, the Most High, while entering and also when he eats,
Shaytaan says: ‘There is no place for you to spend the night here and there is no food to eat here’
If he enters his home and does not remember the name of Allah while entering;
Shaytaan says: ‘There is a place for you to spend the night.
If he does not remember the name of Allah while eating
he says: ‘There is a place for you to eat and spend the night”

[Saheeh Muslim 3/1599]

Challenges this Week:

Remember Allah when you enter your house with the following dua:
“بِسْمِ اللهِ وَلَجْنَا، وَ بِسْمِ اللهِ خَرَجْنَا، وَعَلَى رَبِّنَا تَوَكَّلْنَا”
”Bismillaahi walajnaa, wa bismillaahi kharajnaa, wa ‘alaaRabbinaa tawakkalnaa” In the Name of Allah we enter , in the Name of Allah we leave , and upon our Lord we depend.(Classed as Saheeh by al-Albaani)
Remember Allah before you eat simply by saying ”Bismillah” (Narrated in Tirmidhi-Saheeh)

The Lure of Wealth

Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas: I heard the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, saying:

“If the son of Adam (the human being) had two valley of money, he would wish for a third, for nothing can fill the belly of Adam’s son except dust, and Allah forgives him who repents to Him.”
Challenge: Constantly remind yourself of the lure of wealth, and beware of doing anything haram to attain it.
